Microwave lasted 23 years.

My Panasonic microwave, model NN-6207, manufactured in December 1987, just died. I think I bought it in 1988. I had it for at least 23 years. The magnatron must have gone out, as the light, fan and turntable still worked.

That is actually a fairly decent "length of service." Did you fix it, or get a new one?

Got a new one, an Oster. It died within a couple weeks. So I bought another Panasonic.

I believe I killed the Oster by cooking something without a lid, and leaving it in the microwave, allowing the steam vapor to condense inside the unit. So when I turned it on again, there was water/condensation in the magnatron, and it shorted out.
